At Lucas Heights Community School our Certificate IV accredited teaching team deliver a variety of Vocational Education subjects to meet the diverse needs of students to ensure they gain meaningful preparation and training that can be transferred across a range of industries for future careers in the workplace.

2 unit VET subjects taught at LHCS include:

  • Hospitality Food and Beverage Strand
  • Construction Pathways

These courses are delivered in simulated workplace environments at school, and also in commercial establishments, when completing their compulsory 70 hour work placements.

VET allows students to develop industry recognised skills while at school which allows them to choose from a broad range of post school options. Evidence shows that Year 11 and Year 12 students who undertake VET as part of their HSC have better job prospects over those who do not. This is recognised at LHCS where consistently over 60% of students, whilst on their mandatory work placements, are offered either part-time employment, full-time employment or apprenticeships.

VET courses allow students to gain skills for realistic career pathways.
