Additional learning support
At our school, we ensure every student is ready to learn. We support students with disability and additional learning needs so they can take part in all areas of school life. You do not need a formal diagnosis for your child to receive support in a mainstream class. Support can begin at any stage of school.
Learning and Support at our school
We are proud to support the “Every Student, Every School” initiative, a comprehensive framework dedicated to assisting students with disabilities, learning difficulties, or behavioural support needs. Our team works closely with classroom teachers to customise the curriculum and provide reasonable adjustments and accommodations tailored to each student’s needs.
Collaboration extends beyond the classroom, as we partner with parents and local primary schools to ensure a smooth and supported transition for students entering high school.
Our Learning Support Team meets fortnightly to provide timely, targeted assistance for students referred by parents, clinicians, and teachers. The Inclusive Learning Support Hub takes responsibility for addressing the individual learning needs of students across all year groups.
We strive to foster self-esteem, participation, confidence, and a love of learning for students with diverse and specific support needs.
The Inclusive Learning Support Hub is made up of Learning and Support Teachers (LaST), Student Learning Support Officers (SLSO), School Support Officers (SSOs) and the careers advisor.
Our LaST staff offer in-class support through team teaching, assist with assessment provisions, and, when necessary, work with small groups or individual students to develop specific skills. We also collaborate with external support agencies and specialists to ensure effective teaching and learning strategies are in place.
A key part of our process is working closely with parents/carers, students, and relevant professionals to develop a Personalised Learning and Support Plan (PLaSP). This plan is designed to support student success when their learning and support needs meet the criteria outlined in the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, and where those needs require tailored educational adjustments.
As partners in your child’s education, you will gain valuable insights into their achievements and challenges. We encourage you to contact the school to arrange a meeting to discuss your child’s learning and support needs.
The Inclusive Learning Hub ensures that each student receives timely and appropriate assistance. They collaborate with families, teachers, support staff and external agencies to:
- understand each student’s needs
- plan adjustments and supports
