The LHCS Yr10 History Debating Team have been victorious in taking out The Les Gordon state wide History Debating competition. Congratulations to the team which consisted of Ethan W, Kristen G, Ryan, G and Brendan G and were coached by Ms Jordan with assistance from Mr Dixon, MS Itzstein, Mr Guilly, Mr Mitchell and Mr Serena.
The competition is open to all schools from the public and private sectors and is considered to be a prestigious academic competition. During 2015 the LHCS team was up against a number of academically focused schools and came away victorious on all occasions, including the grand final. Before making the grand final the team had to over come St George Girls Selective High School, Fort St Selective High School, Tangara Girls School and Sydney Boys High School. On each occasion the students were praised by independent adjudicators for their knowledge, preparation and speaking skills. We are proud of their achievements which are evidence of the core values of participation and achievement and our commitment to excellence in learning at LHCS.
The success continues a tradition of achievement in history debating as this is the third time the school has been successful in winning the title. Previously we won the trophy in 1995 and 1998, followed by a 14 year hiatus from the competition. we are proud of our success and hope to emulate the win in the near future.
Once again congratulations to the team and thank you to all the staff who assisted in such a fantastic achievement.
