Assessment Guidelines
This booklet gives you information about what Lucas Heights Community School expects of you while studying Higher School Certificate courses.
You should also read the additional assessment information that will come to you from your teachers about the particular courses you are studying.
The NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Assessment Requirements for the Higher School Certificate are implemented by this school. A copy of NESA’s Rules and Procedures for 2023 Higher School Certificate Candidates will be sent to you during your course.

Subject Selection: Years 9 and 10 Guidelines
The high school curriculum at Lucas Heights Community School is organised into three Stages – Years 7 and 8 (Stage 4), Years 9 and 10 (Stage 5) and Years 11 and 12 (Stage 6). This information booklet has been written to assist parents and students in the selection of subjects for the next two years of their schooling as they enter Stage 5 at the end of this year. The curriculum at Lucas Heights Community School is developed to cater for a range of individual student needs.
Subject Selection: Year 11 and 12 Guidelines
Our school offers a wide range of courses from which Year 10 students may select their pattern of study for the Higher School Certificate. These courses are designed to suit the varying interests of students, levels of ability and potential career plans. As you are considering the courses for your HSC studies, we are asking you to think carefully about your own abilities and the career pathway that you may like to follow after leaving school.
